Came homelast night and heard someone coughing loudly - but when I
checked it was my grey mare - she sounded just like a person

Is this anything to worry about?

I would say it might be, but only if she goes on to invite herself round for
Christmas dinner!!
Sorry to be flippant - I'm sure it's probably nothing to worry about. My
mother's mare used to cough sporadically due to dusty and dry bedding,
especially in the late autumn when she was spending more time indoors.

Thanks Marius - I hadn't heard a horse cough before so was not sure what was
going on. But I will keep an eye on her. I did wonder if she might have
swallowed a locust as we have a plague of them at the moment

I have an older Tn Walking horse mare that sometimes chokes/coughs. She
would cough up 'chunks' of hay. We had the vet float her teeth now she's
good to go. 28+ yrs and going strong.

Hi Lisa

Do you still ride her at that age? Just curious.

Missy has stopped her coughing, so it was just a passing thing.

Thanks for your reply tho
